Dental Porcelain (Core) with Improved Fracture Toughness and Microhardness

چکیده
To study the effect of different cooling rates after glaze firing on Radius of radial crack, Fracture toughness and Microhardness of Alumina reinforced porcelain. Total 30 porcelain discs reinforced with aluminium oxide of 8mm diameter×0.6mmthickness were prepared. Specimens were divided into three groups, each group containing ten discs. They were positioned at the entrance of the furnace with a temperature of 593 0 C for ten minutes and then elevated to a non vacuum furnace while the temperature was increased to 970 0 C at a rate of 50 0 C per minute for glaze firing and each group was cooled at a different rate. After cooling, indentations on each disc were made with a Vickers indenter with a microhardness tester loaded with one kilogram for twenty seconds. Statistical analysis revealed significant differences in fracture toughness of porcelain for each of the cooling rates. The slowcooled group had significantly lower fracture toughness than the group with medium cooling rate and the group with rapid cooling rate. Highest fracture toughness value was obtained for rapidly cooled group. The highest VMH value was also obtained for the rapidly

Studies on mechanical strength, thermal expansion of layering porcelains to alumina and zirconia ceramic core materials.
The aim of this study was to evaluate and clarify the various mechanical properties and behavior of layering porcelains (Tokuyama Dental Ceramic, IPS Empress 2, Cerabien, Vitadura, Creation) used for veneering high-strength ceramic core materials. The layering porcelains studied exhibited the following range of mechanical properties: compressive strength at 586-1091 MPa, bending strength at 30-...
متن کاملAddition of platinum and silver nanoparticles to toughen dental porcelain.
Several studies have investigated toughening porcelain that is layered over a frame or a core. The introduction of residual compressive stress to the surface of porcelain has been shown to be effective to strengthen it. In the present study, nanoparticles of precious metals of silver and platinum (rather than non-precious metals) were used to evaluate if they could increase the fracture resista...
متن کاملEffect of Glaze Cooling Rate on Mechanical Properties of Conventional and Pressed Porcelain on Zirconia.
The aim of this study was to characterize a conventional and a pressed porcelain for zirconia core as to biaxial flexural strength (BFS), apparent fracture toughness (FT) and microstructure composition, and to investigate the effect of glaze cooling rate on the BFS of the zirconia/porcelain bilayers. Monolayers of conventional porcelain Vita VM9 and pressed porcelain Vita PM9 (n=15) (12 mm diam...
متن کاملFracture Toughness of Veneering Ceramics for Fused to Metal (PFM) and Zirconia Dental Restorative Materials
Veneering ceramics designed to be used with modern zirconia framework restorations have been reported to fracture occasionally in vivo. The fracture toughness of such veneering ceramics was measured and compared to that of conventional feldspathic porcelain veneering ceramics for metal framework restorations. The fracture toughness of the leucite free veneer was measured to be 0.73 MPa m ± 0.02...
متن کاملEvaluation of brittleness of porcelain fused to pure titanium by fracture toughness, hardness and fracture energy.
To elucidate the cause of brittleness of porcelain fused to pure titanium (PFPT) which leads to chipping and cracking similar to that of conventional porcelain in clinical use, fracture toughness KIc, hardness (Hv and Hk) and fracture energy gamma reflecting the bonding energy of atoms were evaluated. In KIc there were no differences between PFPT and conventional porcelain, nor for Hv and Hk, b...
